Hello everyone! As we step into the autumn season, witnessing the mesmerizing transformation of leaves and the gradual waning of daylight, it's an opportune time for some self-reflection and personal growth. However, amidst these natural shifts, we cannot ignore the significant societal changes unfolding across Canada, not all of which are positive.
Recently, there has been a disconcerting surge in hatred aimed at those who are trans and non-binary, exemplified by the recent protests that have swept across the nation. These events have left a deep impact not only on our team but also on our valued Employer Partners and community members. In response to this troubling increase in anti-trans rhetoric, CCDI has issued a statement, which I encourage you to read here. I will echo its sentiment: We see you and stand with you, members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community, and we wholeheartedly support your rights.
In addressing yet another pressing social issue, I am please to announce that I’ll be hosting the CCDI webinar on Islamophobia. I will be joined by human rights advocate and Canada’s Special Representative on Combatting Islamophobia, Amira Elghawaby. Our conversation will revolve around the steps workplaces and communities can take to deepen their understanding of Islamophobia and combat bias and hatred directed at Muslims. This important discussion will be featured in October's episode of the Leader Talks podcast, set to be released later this month.
With over 25 years of experience in the field of diversity, equity, and inclusion, I've come to realize that this work is an ongoing, ever-evolving journey. It demands a continuous commitment to learning and adapting to the changing landscape. Undoubtedly, there are moments when this journey can be disheartening, especially in recent times. It may seem like the ultimate destination is always just out of reach. Therefore, I encourage each of you to maintain an open heart and an open mind as you engage in this vital work. Together, we have the power to construct a world where every individual is treasured and celebrated for the rich tapestry of their diverse identities.
I hope you all have a wonderful October, and I’ll see you next month!
Thanks,
Anne-Marie Pham

DreamMakers Summit: Inspiring change on the path to Indigenous Inclusion
How can organizations move towards reconciliation and foster a workplace culture that embraces Indigenous inclusion? We are excited to share feedback from the 2022 DreamMakers Summit case studies highlighting the transformative event that connected like-minded organizations committed to making a difference. Through our partnership with Indigenous Works, we have developed the DreamMakers Council, which aims to provide new models and training solutions to advance Indigenous inclusion in the workplace.
Learning through sharing
The DreamMakers Summit is an exclusive virtual event for members of the DreamMakers Council - a network of organizations that are Employer Partners of both Indigenous Works and CCDI. With nearly 50 DM Council organizations, the Summit offers a unique opportunity for participants to connect with like-minded peers and gain insights into organizational strategies and efforts for Indigenous inclusion. The 2022 DreamMakers Summit featured informative sessions on a wide range of topics, from an Indigenous inclusion speaker panel showcasing the experiences of employees in mid-career to reflections on the 2SLGBTQI+ community and thought leadership on reconciliation.

Celebrating excellence
On September 20, our National Lead, Partner Relations, Pangus Kung, took the stage at the prestigious Canadian HR Awards gala to present Hyundai Canada with the CCDI Award for Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion. Pangus' timely message highlighted the need for heightened DEI commitment, especially in the face of mounting challenges faced by underrepresented groups across Canada. This award acknowledges organizations championing diversity, equity and inclusion, providing comprehensive programs for employees from five essential groups: women, visible minorities, persons with disabilities, Indigenous individuals, and the 2SLGBTQI+ community.
