Pham, Anne-Marie - Circular (new)

Happy May, everyone!

This month is always an exciting and industrious time in my household, as we work on the yard, tend the garden, and get everything spruced up for spring. Time to get my green thumb to work!

May is also Asian Heritage Month, a time to celebrate the rich cultural contributions that Asian-Canadians have brought to the fabric of our country, as well as an opportunity for us to reflect on how far we have come in addressing Asian stereotypes and the advancement of Asian-Canadians in the workplace. To this end, I will be hosting a webinar on May 11, with our guest Sania Chaudhry, to discuss the “bamboo ceiling” and the under-representation of employees of Asian descent in leadership roles. This conversation will be made available as a podcast later this month.

One of the things that brings me joy in my work is connecting with people from across Canada. I look forward to doing so in cities such as Winnipeg, Halifax, the City of London, Ontario, as well as my hometown of Calgary, for speaking engagements and conferences. Please stop by and say ‘Hello!” when you attend any of these events.

Our spring Community of Practice events start this first week of May, and I hope you will join us for this timely and important examination of compassionate communication in the workplace. We all face challenges in both our professional and personal lives, and these Community of Practice events will offer an opportunity to explore our common goal of dismantling unequal power structures, improving inclusion, and demonstrating allyship in the workplace.

I hope you all have a fantastic month, and I’ll see you in June!

Thanks,

Anne-Marie Pham

Looking for ways to create a more harmonious and effective workplace? Join the spring 2023 CCDI Community of Practice events on Depolarizing the workplace and learn how to communicate with empathy and understanding using Nonviolent Communication (NVC).

Workplaces have become increasingly polarized in recent years, making it difficult for people to find common ground and focus on addressing issues that desperately need solving. NVC is an approach to communication based on principles of nonviolence and is designed to increase empathy and improve the quality of life of those who utilize the method and the people around them.

With both virtual and in-person session offerings available, participants will:

  • Understand how Nonviolent Communication supports psychological safety in the workplace.
  • Learn how to implement the principles of NVC in their workplaces to foster inclusive environments.
  • Practice NVC skills with your DEI peers in a safe environment.
  • Leave with a framework, a set of skills, and practical exercises to learn and practice non-violent communication with their teammates.

Register here to secure your spot!

NOTE: Registration deadlines for in-person events are firm. Deadlines vary for each city. Spaces are limited.

Registration is now open!

CCDI is excited to announce that registration for the June cohort of our See Different program is now officially open!

If you are a young person aged 15-24 (or if you know one), we invite you to sign up for See Different, a two-part, online DEI education program designed to equip youth to create positive change and become DEI leaders in their schools and communities. The program is a fantastic opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of real-world issues, implement your own DEI project in your community, and network with other students and DEI-focused organizations in Canada.
