I just returned from a trip to New Zealand to attend the launch of the Global Inclusion & Diversity Alliance (GIDA), of which CCDI is a founding member. I experienced the lovely Māori culture and, given that the official languages of New Zealand are Māori and New Zealand Sign Language, I was challenged to listen to and say a few words in Māori throughout the conference. It was a marvellous experience! I am excited about what the future holds with the GIDA partnership.
For this month’s Leader Talks podcast episode, I am joined by Kadie Ward, Commissioner and Chief Administrative Officer of the Ontario Pay Equity Commission. She shares insights on how women have been undervalued in work over the years, why legislation is essential in closing the gender wage gap, and how gender diversity, equity, and inclusion create economic prosperity. The episode will be available March 8.
I couldn’t be more thrilled for this year’s CCDI UnConference! I look forward to our two-day event, where we will explore the journey we have taken over the last decade of DEI work within our communities (day 1), and then look forward to see what we can do to build a Canada that is inclusive of everyone (day 2). With speakers such as the Governor General of Canada and the Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion, it promises to be a fantastic event.
I hope you all have a wonderful March, and I’ll see you next month!
Thanks,
Anne-Marie Pham

March 8 is International Women's Day (IWD), a time to celebrate the achievements of women and to raise awareness of the ongoing struggle for gender equality. This year's theme, #EmbraceEquity, highlights the importance of equity in achieving gender parity. Equity means recognizing that women have different needs and experiences and ensuring that resources and opportunities are distributed fairly to address these differences.
The #EmbraceEquity theme is a call to action for individuals and organizations to commit to promoting equity for all women, regardless of their race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or ability. By embracing equity, we can create a more just and inclusive society where women can thrive and reach their full potential.
