June 2023

Pham, Anne-Marie - Circular (new)

Hello, everyone!

There is still a part of me that thinks of June as the end of the school year, providing me with that sense of completion, of a job well done and of anticipation for some well-earned summer rest. That said, I am also firmly committed to life-long learning and seeking out new opportunities to grow. This June will be no exception!

First, CCDI is making an important update to the acronym associated with the LGBTQ2S+ community. To honor both Indigenous History Month and Pride Month, we are proud to announce the official change to 2SLGBTQI+. This update is significant as it moves the 2S to the forefront, acknowledging and recognizing Two-Spirit peoples as the first and essential communities within the 2SLGBTQI+ spectrum. This adjustment aligns with the best practices followed by numerous organizations, as well as the Government of Canada. To ensure consistency and inclusivity, we will be making the necessary changes to our website and all forthcoming materials.

Second, this month’s episode of the Leader Talks podcast will feature Kai Scott, President and Gender Strategist of TransFocus. We discuss gender diversity in the workplace, how to create psychologically safe workspaces for members of the 2SLGBTQI+ community and why pronouns matter. I want to thank Reliance Home Comfort for their sponsorship of this Pride Month-focused episode.

Last, CCDI’s Annual General Meeting and first all-team retreat will take place the third week of June, in Calgary. While I’m looking forward to sharing all our good work with the Board of Directors, I’m even more excited for the retreat, as it will be the first time the entire team will gather together in person! Coinciding with National Indigenous Peoples Day, we have invited an Indigenous Elder and Knowledge Keepers to guide us in Indigenous-focused activities, including the KAIROS Blanket Exercise. It will prove to be an invaluable learning experience for the team.

I hope you all have a fantastic June and explore new ways to grow. See you next month!

Thanks,

Anne-Marie Pham

Culture EN

We are happy to introduce CCDI's new vision, mission, and values statements, marking a significant milestone in our journey to foster inclusivity and create positive change in Canada.

Our visionary statement, "A world where people are valued and celebrated for all their dimensions of diversity", embodies our aspiration to create a society that embraces and honors the richness of human differences. It inspires us to champion inclusivity and build bridges of understanding.

Aligned with our vision, our mission is to build a more inclusive Canada by uniting and supporting individuals to become catalysts for change. Through thought leadership, research, education, and action, we aim to empower change agents and drive tangible progress in our society.

At the core of our work lie our values: change, courage, inclusion, integrity, and respect. These values guide our actions, fuel our commitment to continuous learning, and shape our interactions with compassion and dignity.

We also wish to underline CCDI’s commitment to truth and reconciliation in Canada. As we work with Elders, Knowledge Keepers and community partners to co-create solutions and to guide us, we will continue to deepen and steward all our relationships as they help us to fulfill our mandate of educating organizations – including our own – towards reconciliation.

Together, we embark on a transformative journey, guided by truth, respect, and inclusivity, to build a more equitable and united Canada. Let us stand together in our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and reconciliation.
