August 2023

Pham, Anne-Marie - Circular (new)

Hello, everyone!

Hard to believe that we’re already halfway through the summer… I hope you have been able to take some time to enjoy the warm weather and spend time recharging your batteries!

With that in mind, I am looking forward vacationing this month, as I travel with my family to Europe to immerse myself in the culture of Spain, Italy and France. While I am particularly thrilled to revisit my childhood home of Fontainebleau, I must confess that I’m even more excited to enjoy some authentic French pastries! 😊

Last month, I had the pleasure to be a guest on the “Against the Tides of Racism” podcast. In reaction to the growing anti-Asian hate during COVID-19, Dr. Gina Ko created this podcast to support the cause and elevate the stories of Asians in Canada. I want to thank Gina for inviting me to share my personal story, as well as discuss what we can do to fight anti-Asian racism. Click here to listen to the episode.

Speaking of podcasts, our August episode of “Leader Talks with Anne-Marie Pham” will feature Salena Starling, an inspiring young Indigenous leader from Winnipeg who advocates for reform in the child welfare system and facilitates workshops on truth and reconciliation. The episode will be released to coincide with International Youth Day, August 12. You can listen to the episode on your preferred podcast platform or by visiting https://ccdi.ca/podcast/.

I hope you all have a fantastic month, and I’ll see you in September!

Thanks,

Anne-Marie Pham

See Different EN

Young people are powerful leaders of change. Today’s youth have the potential to make a positive and long-lasting impact on the world.

With that in mind, CCDI is thrilled to announce the new cohort of its See Different program, an initiative that offers students between the ages of 15-24 the opportunity to become trained and certified as emerging leaders of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), free of charge. Our mission is to empower youth from across Canada by providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to make meaningful change in their communities.

The program comprises of three main elements: The Principles of DEI certificate, the Emerging Leaders of DEI certificate and the National Youth Ambassador Network for Emerging Leaders of DEI.

In the Principles of DEI certificate, participants will learn about different dimensions of diversity, DEI language and terminology, and build their understanding of the cycle of bias and Canada’s history of systemic racism and discrimination. In the Emerging Leaders of DEI certificate, participants will develop a deeper knowledge of the topics of unconscious bias, power and privilege, allyship, cultural humility, and social action, culminating in the change-maker project. Finally, the National Youth Ambassador Network for Emerging Leaders of DEI will provide opportunities for continued learning and engagement with like-minded youth and organizations from across the country.
