April 2023

Pham, Anne-Marie - Circular (new)

Happy April, everyone!

I recently experienced my first Shabbat dinner with family friends. I loved being immersed in a religious tradition that is different from my own. As we broke bread over dinner, I was reminded first-hand of the many values we all share: thankfulness, community, peace. These all resonated with me and I’m extremely grateful for the experience. Thank you to my friends for this wonderful gift and Chag Pesach Sameach (a happy Passover) to all who celebrate.

Spring is one of my favourite times of year – a time of renewal and growth, when the temperatures are starting to warm up and new life is bursting forth from the earth. (Now if only Calgary would realize this!) I also find spring to be a good time for personal growth and renewal. With that in mind, I am very excited about CCDI’s spring activities.

Preparations for our spring 2023 Community of Practice events are in full swing, with registrations now open. Our topic of Depolarizing the workplace is timely, and it will be a fantastic opportunity for people to learn more about compassionate and non-violent communication, an essential tool for challenging conversations. Join us this May and June, either virtually or in-person.

The guest for this month’s podcast episode of Leader Talks is Brittany Gataveckas from UN Global Compact Network Canada. She joins me to discuss her work with the 50-30 Challenge, an initiative which challenges Canadian organizations to increase the representation and inclusion of diverse groups in workplaces, and highlights the benefits of giving all Canadians a seat at the table. I’m thrilled that CCDI will be collaborating with the delivery of the content for the Challenge! The podcast episode will air later this month.

I invite you to explore some of our new educational guides related to various commemorative dates for April, including resources related to Sikh Heritage Month and World Autism Awareness Month (guide on neurodiversity). I’m very proud of my team for their work on these invaluable documents.

I hope you all have a fantastic month, and I’ll see you in May!

    Thanks,

    Anne-Marie Pham

We are thrilled to announce that registrations for our spring 2023 CCDI Community of Practice events are now open! We will be offering both in-person and virtual sessions in May and June of 2023. In-person events will take place in five cities across Canada, including Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax.

The theme for spring 2023 is Depolarizing the workplace – Practical tools for compassionate communication. An integral part of DEI work involves navigating difficult conversations. How do we create psychologically safe spaces where everyone can share their perspectives, challenge ideas, and use conflict as an opportunity to connect and collaborate? In our spring 2023 Community of Practice events, we'll explore using non-violent communication as a tool to foster healthy dialogue and use conflict as an opportunity to deepen connection and collaboration.

    Celebrating CCDI's anniversary

To commemorate CCDI’s 10-year anniversary, we have organized an editorial campaign with the media company MediaPlanet to celebrate the DEI milestones achieved by our over 730 Employer Partners. This campaign will be featured online and in print, and is an exciting opportunity for our partners to share their stories of success, best practices and lessons learned in advancing DEI.

We want to thank all the Employers Partners who have already joined this exciting campaign! If you are an Employer Partner and you haven’t yet joined the campaign, we invite you to sign on and share your projects and initiatives. Through your example, we believe more organizations will be inspired to prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion in their operations and build a more equitable society.
